![]() I had no problem and that worked out really well. Both NPS website and google search have been providing plenty of information that NPS was instituting a ticket system for going to the sun road, so I purchased the $2 entry ticket 60 days ahead. I had planned this vacation for a while and had done extensive preparation. This engineering marvel of a road takes top honors as the epic experience. We did GNP as a third leg of our vacation after Grand Teton and Yellowstone. This is an experience of a lifetime to be in the crown jewel of US national parks (in my opinion). We’ll be back and it’ll be hard to top what we saw! ![]() While circling the lot at Logan Pass for an extended time, we did experience sunrise which was totally incredible! Away from some of the busier sites, we found a lot of pull offs to take in the gorgeous vistas and breathtaking treasure that is Glacier NP. We will have to make another trip in the coming months/years and hopefully things are back to normal and allows us to take in the full beauty of GNP! There are several hikes we’d love to do, but we’ll have to wait until parking is back to normal. I’ve never seen a Nat Park this crowded! It was very difficult at times to navigate the precarious road due to vehicles being parked where they normally wouldn’t be and visitors hiking in the middle of the road because they had to park so far from the sites and they have no place to walk except the road which makes it dangerous for drivers and hikers both. The east side of the park is closed (thanks, Rona) and there were no shuttles or tours bringing people in, so vehicle traffic is heavier than normal I’m told. Being in the park an hour before sunrise still wasn’t early enough for us to beat the rest of the crowd. We arrived before sunrise because we’d heard crowds are continuing to get larger and larger and parking at Logan Pass and Avalanche area is filling up earlier and earlier in the day. One of the most amazing parks we’ve seen and the Going to the Sun Road is almost indescribably awesome. to 5 p.m.Visited 9/11/20 and it was our first time to GNP. Waterton Lakes Visitor Centre hours are currently 8:30 a.m. Permits will also be available at the Waterton Lakes Visitor Centre in Alberta for trips originating from the Belly River, Waterton Townsite and Goat Haunt trailheads. Once vehicle reservations go into effect for the season, these offices can be accessed without a reservation before 6 a.m. Apgar, Many Glacier and Two Medicine permit offices are inside the vehicle reservation areas. Mary and Polebridge permit offices are always accessible without a vehicle reservation. Mary, and Many Glacier offices open May 26, and Polebridge opens May 27. The Apgar Wilderness Permit office opened May 1. The Inside North Fork Road will remain closed between Logging Creek and Fish Creek in 2023. Hikers will be unable to complete the Johns Lake Loop Trail and will need to turn around where trail closed signs are posted.ĭue to bridge construction and road conditions, all roads in the North Fork area of the park are closed to vehicle traffic until May 25. Parking at the intersection is also closed. North Lake McDonald Road is closed to public access including vehicles, hiking, or biking at the intersection with Going-to-the-Sun Road due to the Upper McDonald Creek Bridge replacement project. It also has plans to open the Goat Haunt crossing as well, though exact dates haven’t been set. ![]() The park also has plans to reopen the primitive Cut Bank Creek motor campground this season. The border crossing has been closed for the past three years due to the Covid pandemic. The Chief Mountain Border Customs crossing will open May 15. The hiker-biker closure is at Siyeh Bend. ![]() On the east side, the Sun Road is now open to Jackson Glacier Overlook. West side plow crews are now at Triple Arches, which is 3 miles from Logan Pass. Streams are running high with runoff, so people are advised to take caution near creeks. People should be prepared for snow at higher elevation when hiking. Hikers and bikers can go as far as the Bird Woman Overlook on the weekend beyond the gate at Avalanche. Visitors should be aware there is construction activity on the road from the foot of the lake to the North McDonald Road. Full shuttle operations begin July 1 or when Going-to-the-Sun Road opens all the way, whichever comes first. The shuttle operates on a first come-first served basis. The shuttle has bike racks for transporting bicycles. It will make stops at Lake McDonald Lodge and at Avalanche. The free weekend hiker-biker shuttle begins, as well, running from 9 a.m. The Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park will open to Avalanche Creek for motor vehicles beginning Saturday morning. ![]()
